Plan DonaTIC: Strengthening the Role of Women in Technology

Technology

The future of technology largely depends on our ability to harness all available talent, and women play a crucial role in this scenario. To foster greater inclusion and promote female leadership in the tech field, the Generalitat de Catalunya has launched the Plan DonaTIC, which seeks to strengthen the presence of women in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and ensure they can contribute to the development of innovative solutions that will drive the digital economy of tomorrow.

What is the Plan DonaTIC?

The Plan DonaTIC is a strategy launched by the Generalitat de Catalunya aimed at reducing the gender gap in the tech sector. This initiative includes several lines of action, among which the support for female entrepreneurs, researchers, and professionals in the ICT field stands out.

The program is designed to support women leading innovative projects, whether in creating new tech companies, developing research projects, or improving their training and skills in the digital field. DonaTIC focuses on promoting gender equity in a sector that is crucial to addressing the challenges of the global economy.

Impact of the Plan on Inclusion and Diversity

The Plan DonaTIC not only focuses on providing financial aid but also acts as a catalyst for cultural and structural change in the tech sector. Various reports, such as that of the International Telecommunication Union (2021), have pointed out that women are underrepresented in the tech sectors, making up only 30% of the global ICT workforce. This underrepresentation not only limits opportunities for women but also restricts the innovation and growth potential of the sector.

The Plan DonaTIC addresses this challenge by creating concrete opportunities for more women to access, contribute, and lead in the tech sector. In addition to providing funding, the program also focuses on training and mentoring, essential aspects of overcoming the entry barriers that many women face in this field.

According to a 2020 study by Accenture and Girls Who Code, increasing female presence in technology through support programs like DonaTIC could significantly boost global GDP, highlighting the economic importance of promoting gender equity in this sector. These programs not only allow more women to enter and thrive in the tech world but also improve the competitiveness and innovative capacity of the entire economy.

Having the support of the Plan DonaTIC has been a driving force for Workdeck, as it has provided us with the opportunity to continue developing innovative solutions that have materialized in our platform and have allowed us to move forward with our Project Management Software, becoming a key asset to boost Workdeck’s positioning in the digital ecosystem.

At Workdeck, we believe the future of technology must be built with everyone’s participation, and we are more committed than ever to leading by example. We will continue working to ensure that more women find a space in technology where they can grow, innovate, and lead.
